Get to Know Lisa Flynn

If you took my Mom and Dad's word for it, even as a small child I was an empathetic communicator with an innate desire to stand up for others. What I know for sure is that I am genuinely passionate about connecting with people and helping to support them. Trusting partnership with others is my highest pleasure and honor. My love of connecting led me to English as my major in college, enabling me to use words to reach and impact others. 

After graduating college, as is the case for most people, I needed to earn money! I am an achievement-oriented person, so I wanted a career that would allow me to contribute my abilities and position me to grow and excel - even if I was not totally sure what that career was. Living in Connecticut, insurance roles dominated the scene, and I landed a job as an associate in a Leadership Development Program at a Reinsurance Company. This was the beginning of my career trajectory as a business and IT systems analyst, which eventually led to being a manager and leader. 

I am a creative person, but I am also very analytical and rational. I have a strong need for clarity and effectiveness, and so I enjoyed being an Analyst and was successful in the role. But something was missing. When I moved into management, I realized that my true strength and interest was developing others and helping them to shine. 

Eventually, I moved into coaching and leading Early Career Professionals, managers and emerging leaders and running programs related to this. I have focused on this domain in the corporate world for the past 20 years and grown my knowledge and skills to support others across a wide variety of challenges and opportunities. Starting my own practice was the next logical step, and I am so excited and humbled to follow this path.

I am honored to have coached hundreds of people with a focus on genuine connection, honest feedback and personal empowerment.  The results and feedback I have received gives me confidence that I am making a positive difference. I believe I can make a difference for you as well and encourage you to connect.

In my philosophy, we all deserve a life that makes us feel proud and fulfilled about who we are and what we contribute, and one that does not make us feel broken by unmitigated stress and anxiety. Every human is unique, but in the end, most of us are operating with good intentions and a desire to be our best. We all have struggles and growth opportunities (even if we hide them well from ourselves and others). 

 
My mission and focus is helping people to celebrate their strengths and successes, acknowledge and work on their opportunity areas, and consciously take ownership for their path forward, whatever that may be. I embrace a personalized approach and acknowledge that what is important to one person may not be to another. As to style, I strive to coach with empathy, but also with direct and honest input to help you develop and grow. Achieving your goals and having the life you want requires self-awareness, deliberate action, and a focus on learning and growing every day -- and I will challenge you to do all of those things with my support. Finally, trust and genuine connection are extremely important to me, and I will do all I can to build those things with my clients.

Overall, in our current American life and work culture, we can sometimes focus only on moving forward as fast as we can, often without understanding our path or knowing what we truly want to achieve. We lose our balance and forget to show kindness to ourselves and others. Don't get me wrong - there is absolutely nothing wrong with pursuing goals of success and achievement; I have done it my whole life! But if this is our only goal, we risk burn-out, loss of satisfaction in life and work, and ironically, negatively impact our true potential. 

My ultimate coaching objective is to empower you to live a life you feel proud of and that gives you overall success, satisfaction and well-being.
