Please reach me at lfholisticcoach@outlook.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
No. I am not a psychologist or medical professional. LFHC is a strong proponent of mental health care and honors the fact that some people need to find medical level support for their well-being. Coaching with LFHC is meant to address personal, professional and balance development and growth, not to provide clinical diagnoses or therapy plans. Coaching can be a great addition to therapy, but it is not intended to replace it.
Based on your Assessment session, I will recommend a follow-up cadence and a general coaching plan. If you choose to continue coaching with me, your ongoing sessions will focus on practical life and career coaching and/or stress management. You may be asked to do some work yourself prior to our next meeting. Working with LFHC is completely personalized, and sessions vary based on individual needs and development interests.
The answer is: It depends. Coaching is very individualized and for some people, one or two sessions may be enough to refocus and move forward. Others will want longer term support for ongoing development or challenges. Bottom line, I will make recommendations, but opting into service is entirely up to you. You may have a few sessions and then have a gap before setting up another for help with different opportunities or stress management. Once you have done your Assessment Session, you are a client and can move forward at any cadence that works for you.
Acknowledging and addressing development opportunities is a great starting point for growth. It is equally important to be conscious of the things you are good at and that you enjoy. Then, setting up a plan and goals with practical steps to address challenges and build on strengths helps make development actionable. This is a very generalized and broad illustration of growth strategy, but it is a solid foundation for progress. In any development work, your self-awareness and ability to take and implement feedback are key to moving forward. If you are not in the right head space to work with a coach, it will be difficult for you to make progress and see meaningful results.
As discussed on the Get to Know Lisa Flynn page of this site, I am a practical and analytical person. While I am open-minded, I need rational explanations and science to support my beliefs. All of the stress management techniques I use have proven, scientifically studied benefits demonstrated over decades of use. I could write paragraphs on the clinical research, but instead I simply invite you to "Goggle it". The mind / body connection is incredibly powerful and real, and I believe we cannot really be well and successful without understanding this connection and supporting it through stress management practices. I have personally witnessed the incredible power of stress reduction techniques and feel they are essential to any real growth, balance and happiness. That being said, if you are not interested in incorporating this into your coaching, that is totally your choice. We can always add it in the future if your needs change.
Depending on the results of the Calm in Sense visualization and your needs and interests, LFHC employs or recommends multiple possible stress management modalities. These can include Guided Meditation, Reiki, Sound or Scent Therapy, Breathing Exercises and various visualization techniques. We provide these stress management services, but also guide you in learning how to employ these techniques for yourself so you can incorporate them into your everyday life. With the exception of Reiki, which requires more study and practice, all of these modalities are easy to learn and personalize. NOTE: All modalities can be done virtually.
Meditation is the most basic and foundational relaxation and stress reduction practice. Simply put, meditation allows you to focus on the current moment, clear your mind and pay attention to your breathing. It is an activity that benefits you if you do it once and helps you even more if you do it on a consistent basis. Guided Meditation allows another person to provide a talk track and prompts to walk you through meditation. This is very helpful if you are not experienced with the technique and can help you build your own approach to the practice while reaping the benefits.
Reiki is an ancient practice harnessing the energy that exists in the universe and all around us to promote well-being. Don't worry, it is not as mysterious as it sounds! Like all of the stress management tools I use, Reiki is about empowering you to feel your best mentally and physically. I am Master Reiki certified and have completed over eighty course and session hours growing my expertise. Reiki is different from massage and does not require touching a person but rather harnessing energy and directing it appropriately, and it can be done effectively virtually. In general, it can increase focus, help you feel less anxious and support positive balance in your life.
Scent, sound and other sensory stress management modalities use your senses to help you focus and control anxiety and stress. Scent therapy uses olfactory agents such as essential oils to address specific concerns (e.g., anxiety, low energy). Sound therapy uses tonal or auditory stimulation and can include brain wave input, ASMR (Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response), sound bathing with tuned frequency bowls, ambient sounds or spoken narration. Sensory stress management techniques uniquely connect our mind and body and are wonderful for managing anxiety and promoting overall well-being.
Venmo is the preferred payment method for all sessions and is easy and convenient. All major credit cards are also accepted via Square. LFHC does not take insurance. Coaching sessions may be reimbursement eligible under some HSAs; please inquire with your plan administrator for details.
When I am not coaching, I love spending time with my husband of 35 years and my two adult daughters when they are home! I have an ever-increasing enjoyment of being in nature and just appreciating the scenery. I also love to travel, and over the past year have gotten to visit places of such natural beauty it is awe inspiring. All of the pictures on this site are from a 3 week road trip out West with my husband and it was one of the highlights of my life. Finally, I am a foodie and cook and really enjoy making new dishes and going to highly rated restaurants. I try to live life to the fullest and as you can see from my hobbies, I do not shy away from doing things that cultivate pleasure! In my mind, finding the things that spark joy for YOU is an essential part of any journey to balance.
